Otfim B’Maga

Complementary treatments for the community during the war.

7.10 and the war that subsequently broke out required us all to deal with a complex and unfamiliar reality that we couldn’t have imagined. Tens of thousands of people evacuated from their homes, thousands of citizens who came face to face with indescribable horror and scenes they will never forget, destruction and obliteration. At the same time, the recruitment of thousands of people to the armed forces required entire families to deal with a new, complex and unfamiliar reality. Before it has even ended, it has already become Israel’s longest war.

Enveloping the people of Israel

Ruach Dromit decided to envelop the people of Israel and provide it with a bit of love during this turbulent time.

It is well-known that complementary medical treatments can significantly impact the needs and complexities with which many deal during the war. They alleviate stress and tension and lead to physical release and an improved mood, increase cognitive abilities, strengthen the immune system and boost mental resilience, and provide tools to manage anxiety and trauma symptoms.

That’s why we established Otfim B’Maga, a fully volunteer-based project that comes directly to the patient, with all the necessary equipment, a big smile and much love.

Otfim B’Maga – complementary treatments for evacuees from the Gaza Border Communities and the North

As a result of the current war, tens of thousands of people have been evacuated from their homes across the country. Many of them experienced the horrors of October 7. Ruach Dromit travelled to the hotels where the evacuees were housed, and with a team of 10-15 volunteers, provided various kinds of complementary medical treatments. Massage, reflexology, Chinese medicine, energy therapies, and conversational therapy.

Each meeting was exceptionally touching and stirring for our volunteers, and patients’ reactions were heartwarming. The treatments helped provide moments of relaxation, tranquility and calmness that they so needed.

Thus far Ruach Dromit has provided hundreds of treatments, on a volunteer basis, to evacuees in hotels across the country.

Here are several examples of positive reactions from evacuees who received treatment as part of the project:

“I felt like I could breathe again after the relaxing massage I received. It really helped calm the anxiety.”

“The treatment helped me easily fall asleep at night for the first time in weeks.”

“The massage I received was pleasant and helped alleviate the physical pain.”

Otfim B’Maga Project for members of Israel’s armed forces

With the return of some of the evacuees to their homes or to other temporary residences, the project changed direction, and we began offering complementary medical treatments to members of the armed forces who have been active for months with no respite.

Months of enlistment and fighting are often manifested in significant mental stress, constant tension that leads to burnout, lack of sleep, anxiety, sleep disorders, physical and mental complexities, and symptoms of trauma.

Ruach Dromit reaches out the members of the armed forces and helps them cope with the daily challenges by arriving to military centers with 10 volunteer therapists, foldable treatment beds, creams, oils, towels, love, and a smile, and provide over 100 treatments on each visit.

We are not forgetting those injured and their families. Ruach Dromit volunteers provide complementary medical treatments at Soroka Hospital to the injured and their families who are by their side in in-patient and rehabilitation units.

All treatments are provided free of charge.

We believe that supporting border residents and members of the armed forces is a way to support Israeli society as a whole.
