Complementary medical treatments all the way to the hospital bed

If the patient cannot make it to Ruach Dromit, Ruach Dromit will come to the patient!

We know that many of our patients sometimes struggle to make it to the Ruach Dromit Center, whether due to hospitalizations or the treatment plan, which hinder mobility and the daily routine.

To assist patients and their families as much as possible in this situation, in which additional challenges and tensions could appear, our volunteer crew offers its complementary medical treatments in the hospital units themselves in coordination with, and full cooperation of, the oncology departments’ medical team.

The hospital medical team refers and encourages patients to receive complementary treatments from our caregivers as part of the conventional care they receive. This integrative approach greatly helps cancer patients cope with the disease and its ramifications.

How does it work?

For over 10 years, our caregivers have been collaborating with the various units affiliated with the Oncology Departments at Soroka Hospital in Be’er Sheva.

While the patient sits on the treatment chair or lies down on the hospital bed, and while their companion waits for the end of the treatment (yes! We also care for the patient’s primary circle of caregivers!) – our volunteer team offers, on a voluntary basis and free of charge, 15 to 30-minute treatments such as massage or reflexology that are tailored to the patient’s needs and condition.

The treatment entails much more than just complementary medicine. It’s a chance to meet someone from outside the unit’s staff, someone who brings along a new spirit, pleasant conversation, and calmness, which are inseparable from the healing process.

Our Volunteers

Our caregivers are a wonderful collection of volunteers with a professional certification who are followed by the project’s volunteer coordinator. Each of them aims to share their magical touch, their significant experience, and their big heartedness with anyone in need. Our volunteer team at Soroka Hospital provides thousands of treatments each year.

This giving comes from a profound and genuine place. Entry to restricted units entails an admission process and compliance with the hospital’s requirements. Demand for complementary medical treatments among cancer patients in the various departments is only increasing!

Together for Healing Initiative

Once a month, we gather complementary-medicine therapists from around the country at the Oncology Departments at Soroka Hospital, and with an expanded team of tens of volunteer-caregivers, we provide alleviating and calming treatments. On that day our team undertakes a treatment marathon, enabling it to reach many more cancer patients, to offer significantly more treatments, and to create meaningful connections.

Caring for the Medical Team

The medical team in oncology units constitutes an inseparable part of cancer patients’ journey. Every single day at the unit, they do all they can to support patients and provide them with the best care. At Ruach Dromit, we choose to treat the medical team as well, ensuring that they too get the care they require to continue doing their magic.

In addition to the regular sessions with the medical team, once a year on World Cancer Day we invite the medical teams of the Soroka Oncology Departments for a day of pampering, treatments to say thank you!

Activities at Soroka Hospital take place in the various oncology departments – the Departments of Oncology, Hematology, Oncology Outpatient, Hemato-Oncology Outpatient, Radiation, and Pediatric Hemato-Oncology, from Monday to Thursday between 9:00-12:00.
